Kwara North Monarchs Renew 2027 Governorship Bid, Demand Zoning to Region

Traditional rulers from Kwara North, led by the Etsu Patigi, Dr. Umar Bologi, have renewed calls
for the governorship of Kwara State to be zoned to their region ahead of the 2027 elections.
The demand was reiterated during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Emir’s Palace in Patigi,
where security challenges across the district also took center stage.

Dr. Bologi, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, condemned
the actions of residents who shield criminal elements and stressed the need for a community-led
security response.

“We must confront criminal elements in our communities. Some among us are aiding these elements,
and we must address this internally,” he said, emphasizing that unity remains crucial in tackling insecurity.

On the political front, the Etsu Patigi called for fairness, justice, and equity in the 2027
governorship race, insisting that Kwara North deserves its turn.

“This is not about Patigi, Moro, or Kaiama alone; it is about the collective interest of all
Kwara Northerners. This is our moment, and we must seize it,” he said.

The Emir of Lafiagi, HRH Alhaji Muhammed Kawu, assured the gathering that consultations would
be intensified with leaders from Kwara Central and Kwara South to build broad support for a
northern governorship candidate.

“Any candidate from Kwara North will have our full backing,” he declared.

Also speaking, the Emir of Ilesha Baruba, Prof. Halidu Abubakar, commended the state government
for ongoing efforts to curb insecurity and urged residents to work closely with traditional rulers.
He further highlighted the region’s long-standing demand for improved infrastructure and public facilities.

Local government officials, including the Chairman of Kaiama LG, Hon. Abubakar Danladi, and his
Moro LG counterpart, Hon. Wasiu Omotayo, pledged their support for the region’s political agenda.
Prince Abdullateef Adebara, representing the Oba of Jebba, advocated for more inclusive
representation, particularly for Moro LG in National Assembly positions.

The meeting, attended by traditional rulers and dignitaries from across Kwara North, affirmed a
united stance in addressing security concerns and advancing the region’s political aspirations
ahead of 2027.
